375lbs for 3 pause reps. Using a different set up and not my usual slide through method.. the only reason I started using the slide through was to gear up for my first competition.. Warm ups... No matter what gym you go to across the world they're still people who just go into their workouts without properly warming up.

Simple light weight sets of your first exercise isn't sufficient just as doing 5 mins on a treadmill isn't also. To properly warm up for a workout you need to; -Elevate your heart rate -Prepare your muscles to work through a full range of motion (dynamic stretching) -Prepare the muscles for the load you're about to place on it (these are your warm up sets)

My warm up before training legs included walking lunges with a twist. 
This type of stability exercise isolates your quads and hamstrings during the lunge. By adding the twisting motion (with or without added weight) your glutes contract more fully as you engage your core.

The lunge with a twist is also a great way to challenge your balance and engage the muscles used for any exercise you perform one leg at a time, such as running and even cycling. You can use lunge twist as a warm up as I have demonstrated or add a medicine ball into the equation to create a good workout.

MOVE 1 - Lateral leg lift. Squeeze you inner thighs and keep your back straight and your toes facing forward! The leg you are standing on should be slightly bent.

MOVE 2 - Hot-tub box jump 😉 You can do box jumps on so many different things! Remember to land light on your feet and with soft knees.

MOVE 3 - Elevated glute bridge. Grab something you can elevate your legs with (like an outdoor table or a chair) and squeeze that peach and lift as high as you can!

MOVE 4 - Backward leg raise - Grab onto something for some support and lift one leg up and back. Resume the initial position and repeat.

MOVE 5 - Knee to elbow oblique burn - Lift both legs and bring your left elbow to your right knee. Repeat by keeping your legs lifted and bring your right elbow to your left knee. Trust me you will feel the burn on this one!

MOVE 6 - Side plank-Keep your core engaged for the entire duration of your side planks for the most effective workout.

MOVE 7 - Side crunch. Contract abs in a slow and controlled motion to feel the burn! Avoid pulling on the back of the head and neck. Breathe through it! ‘Slow it down’ is something my clients get drilled into them on every exercise. And something they’re probably sick of hearing me say. Controlling the weight at all times is important for a number of reasons...

1. If you can’t control it, you’re probably risking injury.

2. Muscle building requires your muscle to be under tension - therefore slowing your reps down means the muscle is under tension for longer.

3. When you slow your reps down, you can actually concentrate on the muscle you’re trying to work.

I see people every day in the gym absolutely smashing through reps far too quickly. Usually this is an ego thing, because if you actually slow the reps down you won’t be able to lift as much weight.

Next time you’re training, try slowing the eccentric part of the rep down (the part where your muscle is lengthening) and feel the difference. You may not be able to shift just as much weight, but you will feel it more and get better results.
