⌛️I get asked about this all the time!IF is a nutrition protocol whereby you restrict the amount of food you eat for a given period, followed by a period of normal eating. You can do full day fasts, alternative day fasts or partial day fasts. Although it’s gaining in popularity, fasting is nothing new.

🍲 The two main approaches are the 5:2 method and 16:8. With the first you eat ‘normally’ for five days and incorporate two partial day fasts of 500 calories or less. On the 16-8 approach you fast for 16 hours followed by an 8-hour feeding window before normal eating can resume.

➕ Pros: There is good science that shows intermittent fasting works and it’s certainly not another fad.

🦄 Although some followers argue that the reason it works is due to the increased insulin sensitivity (which isn’t untrue), in reality it comes back to our old, essential friend – the calorie deficit.

🕰️ Regardless, of what fasting approach is adopted, restricting the time that someone may eat often results in them consuming less food over the course of 24-hours compared to ad-libitum eating. Reducing someone’s food intake will often shift them into a negative energy balance and hey presto, weight loss occurs.

After a heavy leg day yesterday today is all about the pull starting with hex bar deadlifts.

Deadlifting rocks. There’s something primal about picking a big weight up, putting it down again and trying to lift more next time. It’s simple, and it’s awesome.

Deadlift variations have a place in most athlete’s training programmes, whether you are a powerlifter focussing on heavy barbell lifts, or a runner doing kettlebell RDLs. The benefits of working the hamstrings, glutes and low back with the deadlift are undeniable.

However, barbell deadlifts do not suit everyone. 
Trap bar deadlifts develop the glutes, hamstrings and back. The main benefit is that they put less stress on the lumbar spine than barbell deadlifts which is important for people with back issues. They require less technical proficiencythan barbell deadlifts and are easier to learn. Finally, they are more flexible than barbell deadlifts – by changing your position you can change whether the lift has a greater effect on the quads, or the hips/glutes.

I will be the first to admit I get bored with my training when following a strict programme or set of rules. I’m the kind of girl who needs to keep things fresh and fun! I get bored very quickly and lose interest if  it’s not a challenge or interesting to me....I know myself well enough to know i won’t put in 100% effort if I’m not in a positive frame of mind for the work out! ⠀

These days you could find me sweating my face off completing a body weight circuit, pushing myself with heavy walking lunges, working on my handstands, attempting gymnastics, practising my yoga or just taking a chill day walking my dog teddy 🙌🏽⠀

Right now I’m the most balanced I’ve ever been and it feels great 👏🏻⠀

I will be the first to admit I get bored with my training when following a strict programme or set of rules. I’m the kind of girl who needs to keep things fresh and fun! I get bored very quickly and lose interest if it’s not a challenge or interesting to me....I know myself well enough to know i won’t put in 100% effort if I’m not in a positive frame of mind for the work out! ⠀

Haha... #throwbackthursday to that time I ran 190 miles across the country 🙌🏻🙃 that was so fun! I’m sinking in a mountain of work this year, trying to take a week off next week, but stress and lack of time and sleep mean I can’t train this week... maybe not next week either, who knows when. This gonna be funny, last year I was fitter and stronger but than I was unwell and eat my feeling up, my weight went up to 71kg from 63kg I’m 1.68m. This year I moved from Christchurch to Palmerston North and make a life change. Everything is much better and everyone are every happy. My partner is the biggest supporter in every way omg I’m sound like I won an Oscar or something. Any way my partner introduced me to The Fight Shop. Our whole family join. Ondrej and Oliver doing kickboxing and BJJ and Angie is just come along and run around the mat. Me doing kickboxing class, BJJ and just start MMA which is amazing. I can feel my body and my fitness level is changing. We eat a lot healthier, junk food for weekends only. Well I love the fact that I can get fit and fun while I’m with family. #Fightshopnz Palmerston North this is my new second home. 🙏🏼

Had a blast working out at @thegymhd ! 🙏 4 hour session last night training legs, core and lower back. Squats were the highlight of it though! Got 2 sets of 10 135, set of 10 185, set of 10 225, set of 5 255, set of 5 275, set of 5 295 and a set of 5 315. All fairly easy and zero pain in my lower back! The 6 sets of 10 with 225 1-2 minutes of rest per set is what killed me and had me wanted to puke.... 😳 Then did accessory work, machines and cardio for the rest of my workout. Honestly the best workout I've had in a long time. 🤘 Missed the environment of this gym too! A lot of people here I admire, that just motivate me to keep getting better and stronger. 💪
